This will depend on the level of disclosure. An enhanced disclosure will look at your entire criminal record, a basic disclosure only at more recent convictions.

It is possible to get a DBS check without photo ID, but this can be more awkward than if you have a passport or driving licence. Many people find it worthwhile applying for a provision driving licence as standard ID.

No, the DBS will only send out the certificate to the address on the ID you’ve shown, and the address listed on your application form.

Many governments overseas will ask for proof of good character for a permanent visa application. This is not done through the DBS process though, and you’ll need to apply through ACRO for a police certificate.

If someone is working in a position which requires a CRB or other check, their employer has a duty to inform the authorities if they put vulnerable people in danger. This could result in their name being put on the Barred List.

Yes, if the work you are doing falls under the umbrella of regulated activity, then you will need a criminal records check even if you are just working two or three hours per week.

Not all sports coaches need a DBS check as coaching adults does not count as regulated activity. Coaches who train children, or who work with adults with disabilities however will need an enhanced disclosure.
