When working as a trading standards officer you will have some engagement with the public so you will need to undertake a basic DBS check.

Forming part of your recruitment process, a DBS check is a statutory background check carried out by the Disclosure and Barring Service. If you live in Scotland, it will take place via Disclosure Scotland.

A basic DBS check for a trading standards officer will require a search to see if you have any unspent criminal convictions or conditional cautions. Without completing this part of your application process, you will not be able to take up the role.

Your employer has a legal duty to ensure you are right for work as a trading standards officer under the 1974 Rehabilitation of Offenders Act so your DBS check is a mandatory requirement.

This level of vetting by the UK government is intended to keep the public safe by ensuring those employed in public-facing roles are suitable for frontline work.

To commence the role, you will need to show your employer the DBS certificate you will receive online and in the post, once the CRB check is complete.

We support organisations and individuals to complete basic DBS checks quickly and easily online.
