Why do beauty therapists need a DBS check?

In order to deliver specialist treatments like manicures and heat treatments, you will need to be registered with your local council. Part of the registration process will require a basic DBS check.

Under the 1974 Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, there are many other frontline roles that are also legally required to undergo DBS checks. DBS checks are necessary because your work will involve interactions with the public, some of whom may be children or vulnerable adults.

A basic check for a beauty therapist is only a first tier CRB check. It will involve no more than a search through criminal records for unspent criminal convictions or conditional cautions. There are no legal grounds for you to be asked for anything more and spent convictions will not be checked.

Basic DBS checks can be requested by employers, organisations or individuals and completed on our site. To find out more or to speak to one of our friendly advisers, visit our home page now.
