Initially carried out by the Criminal Records Bureau, CRB checks are now carried out by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), which was formed in 2012. The DBS is a merger of the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) to make it easier to collate convictions of individuals who could pose a threat to the sector they are applying to work in.
